A week or two ago I regretted writing that Hillary's goal was now clear, to destroy Obama at all costs so that McCain would win and she would run again in 2012.  She seemed to change her strategy and stop with the direct attacks.

But now she's continuing to spead blatant lies about the popular vote, something which is technically moot but contributes to a narrative that Obama is somehow weak with some constituents.  There are several states that voted by caucus and those votes aren't submitted to the tally due to the complicated nature of the process.  These are mostly states he's won.  Besides that fact the popular vote is basically a tie, so the tie-breakers must be the process as has been agreed upon already.

Bill Clinton is actively spreading more lies about her winning a general election that hasn't started, about a conspiracy trying to shut her out of a contest in which she was considered by most party loyalists as the inevitable nominee.  She cited the assassination of RFK for not the first time in a bizarre argument suggesting she should stay in the race in case something happens to Obama, either by her doing or not.  That she said it while tired only strengthens the case that it's her true conviction.

And most recently I read this editorial on CNN.com in which Roland Martin says, "Her comments to The Associated Press that she may take this to the convention in August shouldn't be dismissed. I don't think Clinton cares about the party. Last week, CNN's Suzanne Malveaux said a Clinton source told her that their focus is Clinton first and the party second.

...

"The Clintonites don't want any compromises in Michigan and Florida. They want the results to stay the same, even though Obama's name wasn't on the ballot in Michigan and all candidates signed an agreement not to campaign in those two states.

"But The Wall Street Journal and other media outlets say the Clinton camp doesn't care. Her biggest backer, former President Clinton, is telling her to stay in it until the end, hoping to persuade superdelegates to switch and give her the nomination.

"The DNC rules committee will meet May 31. Expect a bloodbath. Trust me; there will be nothing nice about that meeting.

"The Obama camp better not let its guard down. The Clinton camp is gearing up for a protracted battle. Folks, this is for all the marbles, and feelings -- and party -- be damned.

"Only one thing is certain: If this battle goes to Denver, the Democrats might as well dump those inauguration tickets on eBay, because supporters of Sen. John McCain will need them."

Yesterday a milestone was passed.  According to the Associated Press Barack Obama reached a tally of 1,981 delegates.  That's the year I was born, but also there are 86 pledged delegates left.  Assuming a fairly conservative estimate of him getting 46% of the remaining votes, he'll have about 40 of those 86 delegates.  As of today he added even one more delegate, so he'd only need four to get to 2,026.

But the name of the game on Saturday is to change that endgame number.  It still doesn't change the fact that there are still about 200 superdelegates left.  If trends continue, they'll move in Obama's direction at a rate of about 90%.  He is the nominee but he is not president yet.

For that to happen Obama may have to win this in ways conventionally thought to be impossible.  He may have to count out Clinton's most vitriolic backers.  He'll definitely have to count out West Virginia and Kentucky.  He'll be able to fight in states in which the Democrats haven't been competitive in years.  It'll be incredibly hard though.

So are the above pictures unfair?  Probably.  Did I already dislike the Clintons?  Always, though the point of no return was when Bill Clinton bombed Afghanistan at about the same time he admitted to lying under oath, sending weapons of death to the other side of the world in an attempt to distract the American public from his own scandals.  But now, when they will both actively destroy the candidate of their own party simply because they can't win, because their true colors are now shown.
